Background to Scheme of Work
Working with clay tiles students were encouraged to manipulate clay in different ways. Areas that they focused on were addition and subtraction of clay concentrating on the technique of application and the use of slip as well as practising and gaining confidence using tools that were provided.
We studied the artist Pablo Picasso, concentrating on his cubist portraits. Looking at his approach to his compositions included the colours chosen by him in his portraits. Students chose colours for their pieces that were inspired by his work

The designs for the clay tiles were created through life drawing studies of facial features. Students were divided into pairs and groups of three. Sheets of A3 paper were divided up so that each student could draw a different feature in each section.
Once drawings were completed they were traced. Students then created their design by focusing on placement and arrangement of their tracings to create designs that were inspired by cubist portraiture and the artist Pablo Picasso.
